The Birth of Remus David Gill

I thought I would take some time and tell you about the amazing & wonderful birth of my little man Remus David Gill. It has been a whole month since my husband & I became the proud parents of two amazing little angels.

I will start my story back to when I was 37 weeks pregnant, I was at home with my husband (Matt) and our daughter when I thought I  was having contractions which got me all excited cause I thought that we would be welcoming our newest bundle of joy soon (which we did not know the gender at this stage) but when we got to the hospital and the midwife checked me. We found out that I was only 1 cm dilated so there was no point staying at the hospital as the contractions had also stopped by this stage. Now Matt and I went through more on these “dry runs” to the hospital in the lead up to the birth of our son.

I was very surprised when my Edd (11th March) came and went as my daughter was born before her Edd. My midwife had arranged to do a stretch and sweep on the Wednesday of that week.

The Wednesday morning as I was mentally preparing myself for the stretch and sweep (as I had heard that they hurt) my midwife rang me to cancel my appointment as she had got caught up at the hospital doing other things. I became very upset and distressed not mention annoyed as I had been mentally preparing myself for this moment to happen. My lovely mother called during her lunch break at work and promptly burst into tears as the stress of having so many “dry runs” and then the cancellation of the appointment that morning had taken its toll on me. So she suggested to me to get Matt to go and buy me a frappe to try and make me feel better. So when I suggested that to Matt he decided to take me and our daughter out for lunch to my favourite cafe (which is the American Candy Stand Cupcake Cafe). Once we had lunch we decided that since we were near by where my mum works that we would pick her up and take her home. Once we had picked up my mum and taken her home, we were invited to stay for dinner by my family which was just take away.  After dinner my mum and I sat on her bed and started watching Burlesque together and I noticed that I was starting to get some mild cramps but brushed it off as I did not want to get my hopes up again. Charlotte started getting tired so Matt suggested we take her home so we could get her ready for bed.

At about 11pm Charlotte and I went up to bed she was already fast asleep so I just curled up next to her, I had already taken some panadol because I was experiencing a really bad back ache at this stage, Matt joined us in bed not much later but I was still very uncomfortable because of the back ache so I decided to hop in the shower in hopes that the warm water would help relieve the pain this was at about 12 am when I first stepped in the shower. The shower was helping to ease off the pain a bit when I suddenly felt at peace with everything that was going to happen so I decided that I better wake Matt so that he was there with me through out it all. The pain was starting to get more frequent so I called the hospital and spoke to my midwife and she asked me if I was sure that I was in labour or not and I said I was pretty certain I was,she did suggest that I could stay home for an 1hr to see if anything changed but I said that I wanted to head to the hospital.

Matt started to get everything organized and got our daughter into the car, while I was running to the toilet every 2 seconds and suddenly while I was on the toilet I felt like that I had to do a big poo but nothing happened. Matt was trying to get me into to the car but I was in so much pain that I told him that I was not getting the car and that he had to call an ambulance cause I felt like I needed to push. So he called an ambulance for me and he rang my mum as we were supposed to picking her up on the way to the hospital, she said that she would get my brother to take her to the hospital as she was going to look after Charlotte whilst I was in labour. The ambulance arrived and the paramedics loaded me up into the ambulance and took me too the hospital.

I experienced more contractions on the way to the hospital, the female paramedic checked to see if the baby was crowning but it was not. We arrived at the hospital and went into the triage but there was no one there to book me in so the paramedics took me straight to the birth center ( which is part of the labour and delivery suites at the hospital), I was taking to a birthing suite and my midwife came walking into the room behind me. While this was happening Matt, Charlotte, my mother and brother where trying get through to the birth center but the triage nurse said that I had not been brought in but they knew I been brought in as they were right behind the paramedics.

My midwife asked me if she could check and see if i was actually in labour or if we should wait until matt arrive and I said that she could check because if was not in labour i could go home once matt arrived, just as she was getting ready to check me Matt and my mum came into the room, my midwife checked to see how dilated I was, she looked at me and matt and told us that I would be having my baby very soon as I was already 8cm dilated, so she started the bath so I could have the water birth that I wanted for this birth and left the room to get the supplies she needed and to find the student midwife who was going to watch the birth, my mum also left to tell my brother what was going on. They both had not been gone long when I turned to Matt and said that I felt like pushing so I pushed and Matt looked down only to realize that the baby's head was crowning, he turned to me with a look of horror on his face and he asked me where the midwife was to which I reached over and pushed the button to call for assistance. My midwife came in, I told her that I felt like pushing she looked and saw the head was crowning, so she and matt helped me sit up and placed a bean bag behind me just as they were doing that my mum walked back in the room.
I started pushing and after about 3-5 pushes, i reached down and pulled my baby out all by myself and pulled lifted the baby up to my chest and give it the biggest cuddle, my mum asked what did I have, so I looked down and announced that I had a little boy to which my mum said that we did not have a name for a boy. I looked at Matt and said that we did have a name and announced that his name is Remus David Gill.

Whats New

Hey everyone, sorry I have been negleting this blog but I will be attempting to keep you all updated with what is going on in our lives.

Well first up is that Charlotte is now 18 months old , whoa seriously where has that time gone it serious feels like it was only yesterday that I gave birth to her. She is a real little lady now and I mean a little lady, she loves putting on her pretty dresses, her shoes, having her hair done by mummy (daddy just brushes it), her cloth nappies and oh yeah she loves her designer handbags.

this is her with two of her favourtite things designer handbags (which are mummies) and a ruffled Bonnibuns Modern Cloth Nappy.

We recently went to Sydney (back in November), we went to see a Harry Potter Exhibition which was at the powerhouse muesum which also had a Wiggles exhibit which we took Charlotte to see as she loves the Wiggles, while we were there we also went to the aquarium, wildlife world and attempted to go to Taronga Zoo but it was so majorly crowded that you could not see anything at all (apparently they had 50,000 people in before midday). Charlotte was also adored by all the Japanese people that saw her, they loved taking her photo and she was more than glad to smile for them and she made their day by blowing them kisses as she said goodbye. Apparently a child with blonde hair and blue eyes is considered a good luck charm to them. This used to happen to me as a child growing up on the gold coast.

I am now currently am 32 weeks pregnant with our second bundle of joy which we dont know the gender of as it did not want to show us at time so we are waiting paitently for it arrive (not much longer now by my edd).

I have started up a facebook page to keep you updated with us as i am doing a 366 day photo challenge which means i will be taking a photo everyday for the whole year, so you can see what is going on in our lives. It is called Adventures in Being New Parents.

An Update on Our Adventures

Sorry that I have not update the blog for a while but I have been busy enjoying my darling daughter Charlotte, we had a pretty cool first Christmas with Charlotte.

Charlotte is now 7 months old and she is now crawling around the house which is so cute to see, she is also pulling herself up on the furniture and trying to walk. She is also saying her first word and it is mum no matter much we try to get her to say dad she still says mum.

The first 7 months have flow past so fast, she is now on solids and loving her food, I cant believe in a few short months my little princess will be 1 years old.

All can say is that i am glad she came into our lives and I love her more than everything in this whole world.

Our Mini Holiday

Just recently Matt and I took Miss C on her first holiday, we went all the way up to Queensland to the Gold Coast to visit some of my friends. Miss C was so well behaved on the flight up there she hardly made any noise. We rented a car and drove to stay with some of my friends, who we had not seen since we had gotten married last year and they had not meet Miss C either. On the Saturday we drove up to visit My wonderful friend Tia-Louise and Her Beautiful Family to celebrate her oldest little princess's 4th Birthday, we also got to catch up with my other wonderful friend Tracy and her Husband Phil. I also gave Tia and her daughter Miley (Charlotte's Twinnie) a quilt that I had made for them. Matt, Miss C and I had a wonderful time but when we got back to our other friends house for a rest and to get ready for the next party I noticed that both Matt and Miss C where not coping with the weather there as it is a different heat to what they are used to. So we never made it back to the other party which was a shame because we had flown all the way up there just to attend the parties. Oh well.

Also we had some pretty bad luck on this trip the first was that Matt's Suitcase was broken and could not open it, we think that the plane company caused it but we have no proof, so we had to cut it open with some cutters and we ended up having to buy him a new suitcase, which was an expense we had not counted on.

The Flight back was pretty good expect I had to change Charlotte's nappy twice on the plane back, but that's just part of the fun flying with children.

Matt has said that we need to go back as there was a lot of stuff that we did not get to do. So it looks like we will go back one day in the near future.

Lots of Love

Getting Ready For Our First Christmas with Charlotte

I cant believe its nearly Christmas and this Christmas will be Charlotte's First. There are so many things I have to get organized, but I have been so slack. This week I will be doing my first lot of Christmas Shopping for presents for both AD and her, getting Christmas decorations organized, I think this year will put the Christmas Tree up on November 13th which happens to be the day Adelaide has their Christmas Parade when Father Christmas arrives in town.

I have just realized that this time last year I was already pregnant with Charlotte and I did not even know, as I look at her today I cant believe that this little Angel is mine.

Anyway getting back to Christmas, I know what to get Charlotte for presents but I have no idea what I want nor do I know what to get AD for Christmas (he says he does not need anything). I also have to get presents for my four brothers, my mum and dad and AD's mum. This is going to be an adventure.

I am hoping to get some stuff from WAHM's when we attend the Lollipop Markets in a couple of weeks.
I have already ordered Charlotte some more MCN's from Bonnibuns as part of her Christmas presents.

I will make sure I get a photo of Charlotte with Father Christmas so that can document this time.

Everything Girly

From the moment I was pregnant with Charlotte I knew she was a girl, I can’t tell you how I knew I just did so when I had my 20 week scan and the lady doing the scan said that there was a 95% chance that it was a girl, my heart soared. Picking out her name was the fun part because I knew I wanted to name her Charlotte (named after my favourite character in Sex and the City), but the hard part was choosing her middle name originally she was supposed to be Charlotte Grace Hazel Gill but we decided to change it to Charlotte Rose Hazel Gill. I chose the middle Hazel in loving memory of my late Grandmother Kathleen Hazel Shaw who sadly passed away when I was eight years old; I share the same first name as her.

Ever since I found out I was having a girl, I have bought her so many girly things, I can’t believe how much beautiful stuff there is out there for little girls these days.
She has so many pretty things and I love buying pretty things for her.

I have found many wonderful companies on Facebook that sell beautiful things for girls i.e. bows, headbands, clothes and lots more. One of my favourite pages is called Oooh Baby Clips, I love all her products, so much so that I have just recently bought a big amount of her bows on headbands for both Charlotte and myself (I am currently wearing one in my hair now), I would totally recommend this company to anyone and everyone.

Charlotte is the light of my life and my little angel I honestly cannot imagine my life without her.

As I type this blog today Charlotte who is 3 months old lying in my arms asleep.

Much Love

p.s. Last night Charlotte said her first word and it was Ma, it definitely made me smile and now AD is trying to get her to say Da. Haha :p
